If passion had a human voice, it would resonate through the vocal cords of Vera Riley. With her exceptional musical talent, Vera possesses a unique ability to forge deep connections with a wide array of audiences. Renowned gospel artist Vickie Winans once remarked that when Vera sings, she sends “goose bumps” and shivers down listeners' spines, immersing them in an emotional experience.
Vera's love for music began in her childhood in Michigan--nurtured by a mother who was a musical director. Surrounded by a rich tapestry of genres—from classical and jazz to popular music and gospel—she developed her vocal prowess and a deep appreciation for the emotional depth of each style.
Her accolades include victories in various music competitions, notably the NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, where her rendition of Billie Holiday’s “God Bless the Child” moved a panel that featured Motown icons Martha Reeves and Claudette Robinson to tears.
Ms. Riley was cast in the lead role of Freddie L. Thomas's stage play “When Love Goes Bad,” which took her on a nationwide tour and earned her critical acclaim for her portrayal of Jackie McClain, a recovering drug addict seeking to mend her family ties.
Vera has had the honor of performing alongside some of the most celebrated gospel artists and serves as the worship leader at her home church. She also frequently guest leads at other congregations and is involved with She Leads America, an organization recognized by Congress for honoring distinguished women.
Vera’s talents have also led her to significant public appearances; notably, she had the honor of being asked to sing the National Anthem for an event featuring the former Vice President of the United States.
Vera holds a degree in Journalism from Michigan State University and a Law degree from Regent University’s School of Law. She served as a successful news producer and journalist for television stations in Michigan and New Orleans, LA. She works in the political field, serving in various capacities in the Michigan Legislature. Her community activities involve charitable initiatives that support grieving children, first responders, underprivileged youth, and literacy programs.
Above all, Vera passionately conveys her profound love for Jesus and her commitment to sharing His unwavering love through her musical talents. She dedicates herself to using her gift as a powerful tool for spreading hope and inspiration, embodying the transformative influence of faith in her life.
